Kazakhstan is broken up into oblasts. This would be like states or counties in the US. The Karaganda Oblast, where I live, is the largest oblast in Kazakhstan. This week, the oblast UED competition was held in Karkaraly. UED is the "young traffic inspectors" competition and is a big deal. In preparation for this event, the town white-washed the curbs and painted crosswalks onto the street. All the major towns in the oblast competed.
I wasn't able to watch the actual competition due to work, but I was able to see the opening ceremonies. I thought I'd share a few pictures as this isn't done in the states.
