(Happy Holiday, Comrades!)
The first of May is a holiday in many countries. KZ is no exception. In Soviet times it was called "International Workers Day." Now its the Day of Unity for the People of Kazakhstan. I've also seen it written as "Solidarity Day." Its a holiday, all the same- which means Monday is off! 6 volunteers from other towns in the area are coming into town this weekend and we plan to do some hiking. The weather has been warm the last couple of weeks and the snows up in the mtns are now melted enough to hike (or we think so anyway).
Then we're off to a PC conference in Karaganda for all of next week. I'll post pics of the hikes when I return. Until then, Happy May1st!!!
