Two days ago we were getting quite a storm. Blizzard winds, new snow, etc.

Gambrill left to meet her mother in Astana. The bus ride that normally takes 4 hours took her 11 hours. The bus slid off the road and got stuck in a snow bank. They had to wait 6 hours for a tractor to drive out and dig them out and pull them back on the road. Karkaraly gets wind and snow, but often times the wind on the steppe is much stronger and road conditions can get back quick. But she made it out ok- just had a very long bus ride.

Today though (above), things are looking up. Blue skies for the next week are forecasted, so things may begin to clear up again (mud).
Above is the peanut butter I made today. I rough cost breakdown in KZ prices:
a small jar of Shoprite PB imported from the states: $5.33
So to have one kilogram of PB, you need 2 jars- so your looking at almost $11.
Skinning the peanuts takes time, but I can make 1kg of PB (2.2lbs) for about $3.50. Not bad. I'm getting better at making it. This batch I made alone and it turned out pretty good.
