Back and forth of a KZ spring

And just like that, its winter again. It warmed up, melted, then last night it dumped again. Its supposed to warm up again, getting as warm as 54! Then by Sunday, its supposed to snow again and be below freezing. haha.

The other day I went to the mosque to take pictures. I haven't posted much about the mosque, so I'd thought I'd show it again.

So you'll notice that the mosque looks an awful lot like a church. This is because when the mosque was commissioned, the only blueprints they had were for a church...so they used them. It is one of the, if not the first mosques in norther Kazakhstan. It was commissioned by the sultan, Abai Kunabaev's father. Abai is the father of Kazakh literature.

During Soviet times, the minaret was destroyed. As you can see below (speakers), the steeple now does the same thing and broadcasts out the call to prayers multiple times a day. The inside was just refinished. I will get pictures soon.
