Making a drinking horn


This winter Gambrill's family slaughtered a cow. We were given the horns from the cow and Gambrill came up with the idea of a fun project- sand them down, sterilize them...and drink out of them.

Below you can see the originals- the day of the cow killing. Much of the color is char, from blow torching the head.



After months of work, we are both done with the sanding stage. It was a lot of work- shaving off a lot of char and revealing the horns natural colors and patterns. I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out.


Next, is the disinfection stage. Bleach, denture tablets, and vodka, on a steady rotation for 7 days...
