We've gotten some snow over the last two days and instantly it looks like winter in Karkaraly.

Gaziz and Karlagash, my host family, are too old to be shoveling snow, so the duties fall to me. The last two days I've had to do it, do to the snow we're getting. Below is the family dog. He and I are buddies now. I haven't attempted to pet him yet though- that is dangerous ground to cross with Kazakh dogs. But I get a good wag when I walk outside and I can now walk within the radius of the chain. Baby steps.

The entire external and interior driveway needed to be shoveled. Gaziz is buying 5 more tons of coal within the next week and it is stored in the small wooden shed behind the dog house. The truck has to get in and therefore all the snow needs to be shoveled.

From street to back building its 40 meters long and 6 meters wide. It may not seem like much, but it took me two hours of continual shoveling to get it done. The pile on the right of the gate will be our snow statue for this year! More to come on that, I'm sure.

So it's finally acting like winter here. The snow is still falling and we are supposed to have snow every day through this coming Sunday.
