One of those weeks

Anybody who has been a volunteer knows that sometimes there is just nothing to do.  Then the next day you show up and there is everything to do.  And more often than not you see it coming and can't do anything about it.  For the past couple of weeks I've been staying busy but haven't had a terrible amount of work that was pressing.  That changed Monday when I was told we needed 7 tourism signs, in Kazakh, Russian, and English.  In addition to that, a booklet needs to be put into English and a magnet needs to be made! And since the only copy of photoshop (or any design program) is on my computer...I'm the one that is pulling my hair out.  Everyone has been helping out great with the text and they seem understanding when I beat my head against my desk.  But the deadline is creaping up.

To make matters more stressful, my computer cord severed Monday afternoon.  My heart about broke when I imagined all the work that was just put on my desk and the possibility of waiting a month for a new cord.  Yesterday morning I rushed to a store in town.  The man assured me he could fix it easy.  I had never heard of anyone fixing a power cord for a computer and was worried about electrical implications if a mistake was made.  But when he told me the other option was a "new" cable in karaganda that cost $172, I told him I'd see him in an hour.

Low and behold he did it.  For $3.25! ha.  He looked at my strange when I thanked him a hundred times.  My cord is a little bit shorter now and wrapped in packing tape, but it works!  Talk about a scare. If I lost internet, that is nothing...but I didn't realize how much I relied on my computer for music and movies and such. That would have been a blow.

Anyway, I've written enough...I need to get back to work.  Tonight I need to make 2 signs and translate text.  Put the coffee on!
